AT&T Internet in San Jose, California is about to get a major boost thanks to a new partnership between the city of San Jose and AT&T. The communications giant is creating a public/private partnership with the city to push new and exciting IOT (Internet of Things) technology to its residents. These improvements include the deployment of thousands of small cells to help improve the wireless capabilities of AT&T Mobility. They also include improvements and additions to the already established Fiber networks of the city, for users that require the fastest connections, downloads, and uploads. In addition to improving the already impressive traditional wired connections of AT&T U-verse this will also allow for future development of 5G Networks for AT&T’s Wireless Internet Service. While 4G LTE is the current standard for cell phone networks, 5G is charging on as the next big technology to adopt for carriers like AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile.
California is already known as a tech hotspot, because of the location of Silicon Valley and major tech companies, but this partnership will help to cement this notion and drive future tech business to San Jose. This rollout of new cell technology is slated to begin rolling out in the first two quarters of 2019. Smart City technologies like Public Wifi, Structure Monitoring, Smart Lighting, and Public Safety Notification Systems are all possible with this enhanced infrastructure. It will be exciting to see strategic partnerships like this rolling out to other major cities and potential tech hubs across the country.
