Best Internet Providers in Waubay
Waubay sits on the eastern shore of Waubay Lake, and the small lakefront gives the town a spread-out, low-rise feel. Out along the lakeshore and the grid of side streets, utilities follow the main roads and development stays fairly sparse. Fiber service is limited in downtown Waubay and along Main Street, while satellite, fixed wireless and 5G home coverage are widely available across the northern neighborhoods and surrounding rural reaches. So most households by the lake end up using satellite or 5G for streaming and light work, with uploads and latency-sensitive use more hit-or-miss, and installers usually mount dishes or small fixed wireless units on poles instead of digging up yards.
In Waubay, internet competition varies by neighborhood, but most residents have multiple options to choose from. After reviewing provider availability, plan pricing, typical speeds, and customer sentiment across the 6 areas we track, here are our top recommendations for 2026.
HughesNet is the standout pick if it is available at your address. With speeds up to 100 Mbps, it is often the best option for gaming, remote work, and busy households with many users and connected devices. Availability has expanded across parts of Waubay, so it is worth checking your exact address first.
Interstate Telecommunications Cooperative is usually the most widely available choice in Waubay and a strong option when you need a reliable connection. Its network reaches approximately 100% of Waubay, with speeds up to 100 Mbps and plans starting around N/A/mo, making it the most accessible option for many residents. In neighborhoods where HughesNet is not offered yet, Interstate Telecommunications Cooperative is often the best overall mix of speed and price.
Earthlink 5G Home Internet can be a strong third option if you would rather keep things simple, with straightforward pricing around $39.95/mo and fewer stipulations.
Coverage reaches roughly 86% of Waubay, and speeds range between 50 Mbps and 100 Mbps, which is enough for streaming, video calls, and everyday home use. It can be a great fit in parts of Waubay where signal strength is strong.
Interstate Telecommunications Cooperative or Viasat may still offer service in parts of Waubay, if none of these are available at your address, with speeds up to 100 Mbps. Since promotions change often, it is always smart to check current deals before you order.
