Cox Reviews

Spectrum Features in Former Cox Markets

Free Installation

Cox (Spectrum) offers a fast, easy self-install with the Express Connect Kit.

No Data Caps

Spectrum internet plans don't impose a monthly data allowance. This is one of the more immediate wins for former Cox subscribers, who were subject to a 1.25 TB monthly cap with overage charges on most plans.

No Annual Contracts

Spectrum doesn't lock residential customers into term agreements, so you can change or cancel service without an early termination fee. Cox promotional pricing was typically tied to a 12- or 24-month commitment.

Spectrum TV with Included Streaming

Spectrum TV packages bundle ad-supported tiers of several major streaming services at no extra charge, a different model from Cox's Contour DVR pricing. Contour boxes and DVRs are being phased out as accounts move onto Spectrum packaging.

Company Info

Cox Facts

Cox Communications was founded in 1962 and grew into the third-largest cable and internet provider in the country, serving roughly 6 million customers across 18 states - concentrated in Arizona, Nevada, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, Louisiana, Virginia, Rhode Island, and Southern California.

In August 2026, Charter Communications acquired Cox for $34.5 billion. Cox's residential cable and broadband business, its commercial fiber operation, and its managed IT and cloud services all moved under Charter. The combined company serves approximately 37 million customers - Charter's existing 31 million plus about 6 million from Cox - across 45 states, and passes more than 70 million homes.

Charter expects $800 million to $1 billion in annual cost savings from the merger. As part of its regulatory commitments, Charter agreed to bring offshored Cox job functions back to the U.S. within 18 months and to extend its $20/hour minimum starting wage to Cox employees.

Cox Communications remains distinct from Cox Enterprises, the family-owned parent company that also owns Cox Automotive and Cox Media Group. Cox Enterprises did not go away in the deal - it took roughly $15 billion in value and became Charter's largest shareholder.
